Phishing Scams

In typical cases, you’ll receive an email, text message or a phone call that appears to come from a reputable company or business (especially financial institutions, government agencies, or credit card companies). The message will warn you of a serious problem about your account or information that requires your immediate attention. It will then encourage you to click on a link to go to the company's Web site or to respond to the text message. The phone calls usually state that it is an urgent matter as well.

In either case, you may be asked to update your account information or to provide information for identification purposes: social security number, account number, password, debit card number, mother’s maiden name, place of birth, etc. Please DO NOT respond to these messages or phone calls. If you have concerns, call the organization directly.

National Penn will never ask you to update your account information via email by clicking on a link, by text message or through telephone contact. Should you receive a message with such a request, consider it fraud. DO NOT RESPOND to it and IMMEDIATELY DELETE it from your inbox. Additionally, we will never initiate a call to you and ask you to provide personal or financial information over the phone. If you believe that you may have mistakenly responded to a fraudulent message or phone call, please call us immediately at 1.800.822.3321.
